Puppets with the Green Screen

The students had an interesting idea yesterday.  What if they were to wear the green suits and use puppets in the video?  Here is the first attempt...hoping to continue to play with this idea tomorrow!

Green Screen Fun!

The week before vacation at Williston Central School is Theme Week.  One of the workshops I am offering is Photo Booth Fun.  I have lots of props, including a green inflatable suit as well as a spandex bodysuit.  We are having a blast using DoInk to experiment with the effects for both photos and videos!

Helping Harry

The third and fourth graders had fun with another design challenge today.  A little creature named "Harry" visited our classroom and wanted to be placed where he could see the whole room.  Each group was given a few materials and asked to create a perch for Harry to be able to see the whole classroom.  I loved seeing them work through this together!

Hour of Code Happenings

On Friday, December 11th we had a couple of exciting events in the Design Tech classroom.
Approximately 20 middle school students set up their games created in Scratch and Unity with a variety of handmade game controllers.  Three classrooms of third and fourth grade students visited the classroom and sampled the games.  It was a great way to show the younger students how to take coding to the next level.  We also had about 20 guests from VITA-Learn Northwest visit.  They were very excited to take back what they learned to their own schools.

For the afternoon, we had a live Google Hangout with Marguerite Dibble of Game Theory.  She graduated from Champlain College in 2012 with a degree in Game Art and Animation. As CEO of Game Theory, a company she founded, she produces games, apps and engagement strategies focused on making learning fun.  A dozen middle school girls from WCS joined the conversation and asked Marguerite some great questions!
